CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING

Course Content
This course aims to discuss the impacts of global dynamics on the process of city and regional planning. The syllabus encompass contemporary urban planning and design approaches at different scales in relation with the impacts of globalization process on the main aspects of development, including environmental, cultural, socio-political and spatial.

Aim
The goal of this course is to develop a multidimensional understanding on contemporary urban development issues at different scales and to provide a critical view for the students by discussing different practices.

Learning Outcomes:

(1) Ability to overcome multidimensional, contemporary planning issues
(2) Ability to apply comprehensive development principles at different scales
(3) Ability to identify new planning tools to solve complex problems at urban scale.

Teaching Policy
This course provides a number of visual materials and readings to enhance knowledge of students and assignments and discussions are prepared to support critical view gained through the class.  

Computer Usage
Computer usage and internet connection is required for the presentations. Knowledge on Microsoft Office or Open Office programs is an asset. Adobe software such as Photoshop and Illustrator is not required but the knowledge of these programs is a plus.
